A scored business assessment that shows what to improve next

Onwards Insights is built for managers and decision-makers in family-owned, professionally managed, and larger companies. It helps you see the company situation clearly, identify weak fundamentals, and connect the results to advice and support.

A focused assessment can be answered in 5-10 minutes. The full assessment gives a better overall read on the company situation and usually takes about 30-45 minutes.

How it works

Answer focused questions

The assessment selects the most relevant questions for your situation. Each section has 4-6 questions covering the fundamentals of that area.

Get scored sections

Every question is scored from 1 to 10. These business factors are multiplicative in nature. A weak score affects the whole section. Section scores use the geometric mean to show the real impact on your business.

Reflect on low scores

For each area, you suggest how to improve the lowest scores. That self-assessment becomes your list of suggestions for your next actions in that area.

Receive suggested next steps

The algorithm uses low scores to suggest reading, courses, cases, consultants, certified coaches, or execution assistance where relevant.

What we cover

Our assessment is a full diagnostic toolkit for sustainable long-term company development and growth. It evaluates your business across business fundamentals and the following 8 interconnected frameworks:

Profitability & economic fundamentals

Pricing power, revenue growth potential, offering/market dynamics, fixed-cost scalability, input costs & economies of scale, and talent/labour costs.

Sales, marketing & customer acquisition

Sales pipeline & conversion, customer acquisition & marketing cost, loyalty & customer success, market exposure & presence, and customer surplus/base readiness.

Product development & customer value

Customer empathy & insight, solution fit, feedback & testing, product enhancement, customer value & utilisation, and market traction.

Leadership, governance & culture

Leadership quality & vision, empowerment & trust, accountability & ownership, and decision rights & delegation.

Technology & systems

Technology being trendy & future-proof, data being embedded & ready (for analysis/AI), communication & information flow, and high elasticity & scalability.

Core resources

The five scarce resources every company must protect: Time, Energy, Attention, Money, and Support.

Leverage multipliers

The five leverage levers that amplify everything else: Focus & alignment, Operations & capabilities, Radar & intelligence, Cadence & rhythm, and Edge & unique advantages.

Execution & measurable traction

Clear direction (North Star), measurable key results, involvement & alignment, review velocity, and evolution & learning loops.

For larger companies

The assessment can be completed by one person across all business lines, or distributed across a management team — with each VP or business line manager assessing their own area. The top manager sees scores for every business line alongside a weighted company average, score variation, and company-level insights.

Individual business-line scores

Each business line gets its own score across all 8 areas, making it easy to compare insights side by side.

Weighted company score

Business lines with higher revenue count more in the overall company score, giving an accurate picture of company-wide health.

Variation analysis

High variation between business lines often reveals sub-cultures, unclear guidance from top management, or internal misalignment.

The framework is fractal and scalable — the same logic applies whether you assess one person, one team, one business line, or the entire organisation.

You receive your results, our algorithmic suggestions, and links to relevant material and people to talk to. If you score low on profitability, for example, Onwards can point toward reading material, course material, real-life cases & examples, external consultants and partners, Onwards-certified business coaches, or execution assistance — all with a special focus on profitability.

Set your goals and start executing. The assessment is designed to be repeated. Updating it quarterly gives you a clearer view of what scores improve over time and how this affects real business results.

We are currently building out our digital assessment. The assessment is now in pilot phase, matched with expert advice. Please contact us if you want to be considered for our manual assessment and expert advice pilot.
